Ashley Coticchio: More to Offer than Opening Doors

Ashley Coticchio is the first person you see when you walk in the door. She is one of the newest members of our community and the Fishtown area of Philadelphia.

Before coming to Friends Select, she worked as a volunteer at different organizations and gained a lot from seeing and studying in different parts of the world.

Ashley says her desire to “volunteer and [help] the community is what led me to being so involved in volunteerism and that’s had a pretty heavy role in where I’ve ended up along the way.”

In high school, realizing that her hometown in New Jersey was not very diverse, she pushed herself to volunteer at summer camps away from what she was used to. Her experience at these camps eventually led to her work with Habitat for Humanity; AmeriCorps, a government funded volunteer and community service program; and a YMCA in New Jersey. With Americorps, she worked with communities in California, Oregon, Montana, and a variety of Native American reservations.

While working at a YMCA, Ashley worked with the aquatics department as well as working as the Director of Membership Engagement. With respect to the aquatics program at Friends Select, she says, “It’s definitely something that I am interested in.” However, as she is busy with her new job and planning a wedding, she isn’t sure when she would start.

Outside of her new responsibilities here in our community, Ashley spends a lot of time with her family, hiking, and just hanging out.  An art major in college, she plans on getting back into being creative however it presents itself.
