The history of thanksgiving has been rewritten to erase the long and harsh history between white people and Indigenous people in North America. Growing up, I was told only the good, happy-sounding parts about thanksgiving, while the violence and racism towards Indigenous people were completely ignored. This whitewashing of history not only applies to Thanksgiving, but also to the legacy of Christopher Columbus, and the overall history of the United States.
