Small Fashion on South Street
Vintage is a growing trend, and especially in South Philadelphia, the shops in the area are growing more popular as word spreads. Within the city, there are stores ranging from boutiques, vintage stores, and popular brands. When one is looking for a unique small business to shop at, South St. is a great place to start.
If you are looking for a good place to shop trendy men’s clothing, Ps&Qs is the way to go! The store is located at 820 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147. The store first opened in October of 2012, by two brothers Ky Cao and Rick. Before opening up this shop they had their own brand of clothing called Abakus Takeout, which they still sell. This store also provides brands such as Stüssy and Chinatown market. One might ask – where did the name PS&QS come from? They wanted to add an essence of Philly to their store and got the inspiration from the famous saying “you got to get your ps and qs in order.” Although the store is on the expensive end, both owners wanted to sell pieces that would last for a long time.
For all vintage lovers, Raxx Vintage is located at 534 South St, Philadelphia, PA 19147 and opened in February of 2015. Raxx sells clothing from the 60s, 70s, and 80s; with a large demo and cameo collection. All of their items come from a big warehouse in Kensington. Not only do they sell clothing, but also a variety of one-of-a-kind accessories not found anywhere else.
Another great vintage location right next to Raxx is Retrospect Vintage. This store is owned and operated by Goodwill, so all of the sustainable finds one tries to find at those locations actually end up here. Not to mention all of the profits this store makes goes to the goodwill fund, helping disabled people find jobs and housing. While one shops here for a cute shirt or slip dress, they can feel good knowing that they also helped someone in need.
