Reminders of Him: Colleen Hoover Does it Again
Reminders of Him is another riveting and extremely well-written novel by Colleen Hoover. On January 18th, 2022, Reminders of Him was released and it became another hit across social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Possibly with even better reviews than her previous most popular book, It Ends With Us, Reminders of Him is so much more than a love story. Protagonist Kenna has just been released from prison after five years of incarceration. Her only goal in this story is to reunite with her daughter, who was taken from her shortly after being born. Kenna moves back to her old hometown with no job, a pretty awful living arrangement, no friends, and a very upsetting past. Despite all of these setbacks, Kenna remains hopeful that she can be forgiven for her previous actions and be seen in a new light by the town, and more importantly, her daughter’s grandparents. Shortly after arriving back in town, Kenna meets Ledger and her whole world turns upside down. She has to work to prove herself worthy of being a mom to him, to the town, and most importantly, to her daughter.
Kenna is the definition of resilient. She fights so many challenging battles, such as being falsely accused and imprisoned for a crime, losing custody of her child, spending years in solidarity with no one to talk to, and more. She is often referred to as “the saddest person I’ve ever met” by Ledger. Is Kenna able to rid herself of this hopeless identity and become more than that? Kenna is a fan favorite of many, and we found her journey to be so inspiring.
One of Hoover’s many talents is being able to flesh out all of her characters in exceptional depth, even the seemingly unimportant ones. They all have deep backstories, character development, and exhibit demonstrations of the flaws of life. Through Kenna and Ledger’s perspective, you can see the different ways they deal with the grief and loss of a loved one. This book lets you see through the eyes of both Kenna and Ledger and you’ll find yourself empathizing with each of their stories. Each twist and turn has the reader unable to put the novel down. Some of the most heartfelt moments help the readers realize that underneath it all, this really is a story of forgiveness.
Who should read this book? Those who enjoy mysterious books that slowly unravel the story and allow you to fall in love with all characters. Also, those who can handle a good laugh and an even better cry. If you love Colleen Hoover’s books as much as we do, check out Reminders of Him because this is her best one yet.
