Yolanda Wisher Visits FSS, Teaches Workshops
Today, April 25th, Yolanda Wisher is visiting Friends Select. She will be teaching a social justice workshop class during the E block and a writing workshop during the X block into lunch period. In addition, she will also teach an assembly block today from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
In the social justice workshop, she will share some of her work from her School of Guerrilla Poetics class. In the writing workshop, she will share some of her work, take questions, and provide some writing prompts.
Yolanda is a Philly-based poet, singer, and educator. She writes in a style that is a mix of poetry, song, and storytelling. She was named Poet Laureate of Philadelphia in both 2016 and 2017, and her work is nationally commissioned. Her writing focuses on social change. The aforementioned School of Guerilla Poetics is a space for learners to learn to mobilize communities through poetry. Here are some of her poems.
