“What advice would you give to the underclassmen?”
“What do you wish you were told freshman year?”
As the school year inches toward the end, the seniors prepare for their impending graduation, whereas the underclassmen prepare to move on to the next grade. What advice do seniors have for the underclassmen?
One of the most common pieces of advice from seniors is to befriend your teachers, whether in the hopes of making learning easier overall. Cole Semel simply says, “Appreciate your teachers.”
Whereas, Sam Goldwert says, “Develop good relationships with your teachers,” additionally saying that it will “help you later,” Implying that there are benefits to befriending your teachers, such as a good letter of recommendation.
Many seniors also stressed the importance of getting involved in extracurriculars or your community inside and outside school. Maddie Cohen and Sofia Rouco both mention the need to have a social life beyond school. Additionally, Liam Danford encourages the underclassmen to talk to everybody and “Make new friends.”
When it comes to academics, Chance Fries recommends that every student check their email as frequently as possible, saying, “As painful as it is, please check and reply to [your] emails!” Adding onto that, Jay Chiles encourages students not to procrastinate and to “do your work early.”
Other seniors made it a point to tell students to focus on themselves and not worry about what others think. Jay Chiles says, “Give yourself grace,” stressing the importance of going easy on yourself.
Isaiah Marshall adds, “Don’t follow others,” encouraging underclassmen to be themselves and be independent.
Some seniors took the opportunity to reassure the viewer. Khalea Robinson says that “one B- in Physics” wouldn’t matter in the long term. Sophia Le emphasizes that everything will work out, regardless of mistakes.
